Reader of Gotha orient. A 1220 (middle 1.1032).
Note on verses he composed on his return to Aleppo from Ṭarābulus in the retinue of al-Mu’ayyad Ibn Yūsuf bāshā Ibn Sayfā on al-Ḥasan al-Būrīnī in Gotha orient. A 2323 (13.6.1020).
A very talented poet, whom al-῾Urḍī compares favorably even with al-Mutanabbī. He wants to be a poet even as a child, memorizes qaṣīdas and their meaning: وأكثر من مطالعة كتب الادب واللغة حتى صار لذلك نحريراً.
When he talks, people hold him to be completely without knowledge. He has very poor manners. But when ῾Umar al-῾Urḍī once ordered his son Abu-'l-Wafā’ to test his abilities with a very tricky qaṣīda as a riddle, he silences them all.
In his youth longer stints in Constantinople, also travels to Egypt, then Iraq and in Syria. Close connection to the Banī Sayfā in Tripolis, on whom he composes many laudatory poems.
His Dīwān is widely read.
