Second part of a fragmentary draft written by the author al-Muḥibbī himself for an
extensive biographical work on personalities of different historical periods. The work was supposed to encompass 28 chapters (bāb), correspondingly to the 28 letters
of the Arabic alphabet, subdivided into 6 classes: al-aʿlām (personal name), al-nisba
(place of birth and/or residence, or place of activity), al-kunyā (patrilinear, names
with abū), al-abnā (filiation), al-nisā' (women) and al-ummahāt (matrilinear, names
